View of the north row housing; [Louisburg Square is a private square located in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Boston. Currently it is one of the most expensive residential neighborhoods in the country. It was named for the 1745 Battle of Louisburg.] Charles Bulfinch left a lasting impression on the Mt Vernon area of Beacon Hill, which he laid out in 1795 with large lots and a central park square. The lots were later filled by continuous row houses, but Louisburg Square, begun 1826 and largely built up by 1844, with bow-fronted townhouses ranged around an oval open space, demonstrates Bulfinch’s impact. [Later plan by S. P. Fuller]. Source: Grove Art Online; http://www.oxfordartonline.com/ (accessed 7/14/2010)en_US
