The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, covering an area of about 312 acres is situated on the south of New Delhi with the Nehru University, forming an educational complex of national importance. The campus designed for an initial student population of 1750 is expected to rise to 3000 eventually.
The Academic Building Complex and the Workshops are located roughly in the center of a linear site, almost flat, between two natural storm-water channels which cut across the site. The residences are on either side of these channels - Faculty and Staff Members on the south-east and student community on the north-west. Students' recreational facilities and playing fields lie between the residential areas and the Academic Buildings.
