1979Description
The bottom and top of this clear-glass pitcher are pinched at opposite sides, creating vertical seams. It was designed in Japan in 1979. In the "Crinkle Series" Komatsu has "tried to express. . .those points in. . .common items such as crinkles. crookedness, distortion, etc., called unsymmetry. . ." From the designer's record, n.d., artist's file, Department of Architecture and Design, Museum of Modern Art, New York. PbO refers to the lead content in the glass. Lead increases brilliance, expands the working range (useful to make art objects and intricate shapes without frequently reheating), but decreases hardness.
