Joseph Kosuth published the same six statements in four different contexts (Contexts A-D):
Context A: Label Installation [wall label at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, July-Spertember 1970]
Context B: Public-General [billboard in Chinatown, New York, 1969]
Context C: Installation View [banner in Turin, Italy, June-July 1970]
Context D: Political [The Daily World newspaper, September 5, 1970]
1) to assume a mental set voluntarily
2) to shift voluntarily from one aspect of the situation to another
3) to keep in mind simultaneously various aspects
4) to grasp the essential of a given whole; to break up a given whole into parts and to isolate them voluntarily
5) to generalize; to abstract common properties; to plan ahead ideationally; to assume an attitude toward the 'mere possible' and to think or perform symbolically
