This picture, painted in Cassatt's early Impressionist manner, represents the artist's sister, Lydia Simpson Cassatt (1837–1882). It was posed at Marly-le-Roi, some forty miles west of Paris, where the artist's family spent the summer of 1880. This work was included in the exhibition held by the French Impressionists in Paris in 1881. full view
