Description
One of the earliest of the Seljuq tomb towers, Kharaqan I is situated on a flat plain. It is a polygonal brick building with a double-domed roof and a decorative brick revetment. It has a single chamber with a burial crypt underneath and a staircase in one of the rounded flanges leading to the space between the roofs. The interior has a wall painting showing a tree flanked by a pair of confronted peacocks. [cataloguer]
