dc.description | Central Rotterdam near the Beurs-World Trade Center and Beursplein; Rotterdam is one of the major seaports in the world. During the Second World War almost the complete center of the city was destroyed. After the war the city was reconstructed in a modern way, and modern architecture is now one of Rotterdam’s trademarks. Although the first high rise building in Rotterdam was already built in 1898 (Het Witte Huis), the high-rise boom since 1990 is responsible for the current skyline.
