dc.description | Panel with representations of the sciences and invention; detail, figure reading; Joep Nicolas was widely known as a modern innovator in the medium of stained glass. Among his departures from the traditions that stretched back to the Middle Ages was his decision to allow the lines of lead to be independent of the lines used to render the figures and objects in his compositions. He also moved away from the practice of using a full-scale preparatory drawing, preferring to freely paint the entire glass panel. His most famous windows are in the Oude Kerk, Delft. He also worked in the United States during WWII. | en_US |
