Overall view in tower lobby; This is a small-size edition of the series which was originally (1980) monumental in scale (8 ft. tall each; now at the Indianapolis Museum of Art). He later created several series of Number sculptures in different scales and finishes. Their forms, as Indiana has explained, were particularly inspired by the robust Arabic numerals of an old printer’s calendar that he found in his loft in Coenties Slip. The palette of colors is symbolic of the life cycle, with shades of gray signaling the end of life in the zero figure. (For the Taipei installation it is also suggested they represent world trade.)This series is installed in the lobby of the Taipei 101 tower; they also commissioned a twelve-foot-high red/gold LOVE sculpture for the outside.
