| dc.description | Terminal 3 seen in distance from runway; It is the main international airport serving Beijing. Beijing Airport was opened on 2 March 1958. The airport then consisted of one small terminal building, which still stands. Terminal 1, with 60,000 m2 (650,000 sq ft) of space, opened on 1 January 1980, and replaced the smaller existing terminal. It was reopened after renovation in 2008; it is used for domestic China flights. Terminal 2 opened on 1 November 1999, with a floor area of 336,000 m2 (3,620,000 sq ft) and serves south Asia flights. Terminal 3 of the BCIA is currently the second largest airport passenger terminal building of the world, opened in time for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. It was built (2004-2008) by a western consortium (NACO [Netherlands Airport Consultants B.V], Foster and Partners, and ARUP) and serves international flights.
