Interior, looking down into glass cone and across to upper floor mezzanine; Galeries Lafayette is a luxury department store company (Groupe Galeries Lafayette) headquartered in Paris, with branches in Berlin, Casablanca, New York (now closed), Dubai, and Jakarta. The Berlin branch was designed by Jean Nouvel and constructed between 1991 and 1995. It is located on Friedrichstraße two blocks south of Unter den Linden and opened in 1996. A modern temple of glass, with four floors, whose interior is centered around a huge cone, like a contemporary tribute to the famous dome of the company's flagship Boulevard Haussmann department store (1895) in Paris. A part of the façade also features a vertical garden from the artist Patrick Blanc. Source: Wikipedia; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page (accessed 7/10/2013)en_US
