High Line Park as it passes underneath the building raised on pilotis; Hotel developer Andre Balazs, owner of the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, built the 337-room Standard Hotel straddling the High Line park at West 13th Street. The structural piers (pilotis) raise the building 57 feet over the elevated bed of the old High Line railway, now developed into a park. The two slabs of the 18 story building are "hinged"; angled to set the building apart from the city grid. There is a ground floor bar and restaurant that can be accessed from the plaza of the park. It won the 2012 AIA National Honor Award for Architecture. Todd Schliemann was lead architect. Source: Ennead Architects LLP [website]; http://ennead.com/ (accessed 7/10/2012)en_US
