Detail, upper part of the keep; Built in the sixteenth century , the keep (tower) housed the archives dating from the days when Capitouls administered the city. The upper part was for the archives; the lower part of the building known as the Petit Consistoire served as a meeting room for the Capitouls. In 1873, Eugène Viollet-le-Duc built a bell tower typical of the style of northern France on top of the donjon. It was in this donjon that Jean Calas, a Protestant victim of a religiously biased trial, was interrogated. The Donjon now houses the Toulouse Tourist Office.
