The Temple of Dionysus, view over the site, depicting the remains of the temple in the foreground at the head of the theater terrace (originally built in the first half of the 2C BCE, present remains date to 211-17 CE); Under Persian rule 5th cen. BC; prosperous Hellenistic city during rule of Eumenes I & Attalids (282-133 BC); bequeathed by Attalus III to Rome 133 BC; to Byzantines after fall of Rome; passed to Ottomans 14th cen.; ruins a "text" of Hellenistic art.
