Bruton Parish church (1712-1770), view showing the tower and entrance, from the southwest (the cruciform Bruton Church has been in continuous use since 1715. Before the College of William and Mary was built, the Church was the most important public building; Maintained by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation on a 170-acre site, this reconstruction of colonial life includes more than 500 restored or rebuilt buildings, including the Governor's Palace and the old capitol building.
