Rococo decoration over the central window; C. Fontana; G. Sardi (facade); Giovanni Antonio De Rossi and Giulio Carlo Quadrio (interior). Sardi has been linked with the decoration of the façade of the church of S Maria Maddalena, a scheme untypical of Roman architecture in the first half of the 18th century, but this attribution cannot be substantiated. In the year of his death de Rossi initiated his most original design in a continuation of the work on S Maria Maddalena in Rome, where, drawing on both tradition and innovation in the spirit of his generation, he projected an elongated octagonal nave to be added to the high altar and crossing executed by Carlo Fontana.
