dc.description | Detail of west wall tomb, north side (Tomb of Giulio del Corno, d. 1662, by Ercole Ferrate with Francesco Aprile); Carlo Rainaldi, Carlo Buzzi, Michel Maille, Francesco Cavallini, Francesco Aprile. A similar severity of design is found in Rainaldi's façade for the church of Gesù e Maria (1671-1674). Its flatness is appropriate for the narrow Via del Corso, on to which it fronts, and serves as a foil to the sumptuous interior, also designed by Rainaldi, as was the high altar and two western chapels. He was also influenced here by Bernini in his consistent reliance on pilasters for church façades. Source: Grove Art Online; http://www.groveart.com/ (accessed 12/2/2007) | en_US |
