General view of the fountain; Pietro Lombardi was commissioned by the municipality to make a series of 8 small fountains for the benefit of Rome's historical districts, 1928. The Fountain of the Amphorae is located at the river end of Via Marmorata, near Ponte Sublicio. It is a free-standing fountain, the largest of those built by Pietro Lombardi. A composition of tall vases stands at the center of a symmetrical construction, with drinking-spouts on all sides.
