The Greenes rapidly perfected their version of the California bungalow: an informal timber dwelling, in which the rustic was refined through impeccably crafted materials and details. Their interest in refinement led them to the traditional Japanese house with its meticulous wood detailing, and their next houses displayed timber jointing, panelling and cabinetwork, often carried out by one of the brothers, which remain high-points of wood construction.
